St. Matthew's Ramblers Club, Highfield Wigan.

St. Matthew's Ramblers  is Members Only club based at the Parish Hall of St. Matthew's C. of E. Church, Highfield, Wigan in the North West of England.
Each month the club arranges a walk within an area of  about 75 miles of Wigan. This can take in locations such areas as The Lake District, Peak District, Yorkshire Dales, Lancashire and North Wales.
 
A coach is hired for the day and an after the walk a meal is booked at a pub in or near the area of the walk. 
Because of demand, travel is limited to club members only, if you wish to join use link on the left.

Walk Grades
 
Walks are graded as 'A', 'B' and 'C'.
 
'A' walks are typically 9 - 12 miles and are quite strenuous, usually with steep ascents.
As a result only those who are sure that they can keep up the pace should join in an 'A' walk
 
'B' walks, these are typically moderate walks ranging from 6 to 8 miles and sometimes have steep climbs.
These walks are for those who are generally of good fitness and the walks tend to have more stops to catch your breath.
 
'C' walks, these are walks with ranges up to 4 miles.
These are for those who wish for a pleasant stroll or who don't wish for a strenuous walk.

Ticket Nights.

Ticket nights are the first Tuesday of every month (See walks programme ) at 7.30pm, unless stated otherwise, at St. Matthews Club in Highfield Wigan.

 

Ticket Costs

Tickets cost £8.50, this includes the cost of coach travel and a guided walk, and is paid on ticket night.

The meal after the walk is at a pub in or near the walk location, typically costs £6.50 to £8.00 and is paid on the day of the walk.

If there are spaces on the coach available and you wish to meet up with the group making your own travel arrangements, there is a charge of £8.50.
However, if there are no spaces available on the coach and you still wish to make your own travelling and eating arrangements the fee is reduced to £1.00 

 

Social Events

From time to time we organise walking weekends or weekend social events.
These, in the past, have been to Whitby and Llandudno and the Lake District.
They usually take place in March or September, and are usually announced via this site, at ticket nights and on the walks.

There is also an annual social club dance that takes place each December.
This is open to both members and non members and is used to raise fund for the club.
